LeGrand Haughton gave us the lowdown on his clothing brand, Elephant Squad, which was founded in 2011. Be sure to check out the brand their Facebook page.
What inspired you to start the brand? What is the meaning behind the name of the brand?
Elephant Squad’s main influence came from my father who died in 2010. When I was younger my uncle gave him a staff from Africa that had an elephant with its trunk up. My dad carried his staff until the end of his life. Being a great role model to myself, I wanted to focus on a company that can be a more positive influence on the streets of America. Our youth needs something that can influence them to become better than what they are currently are and strive for a higher level of successfulness and insightfulness. Something that can make individuals stand out and be leaders rather than followers. Elephants travel in herds and protect each other. We are a brotherhood, therefore Elephant Squad.
At this point, where is your merchandise available?
Elephant Squad is currently working with pay-pal and other forms of online payment. Elephant Squad is going to have a website up soon where ordering will become more direct providing customers with a better online shopping experience.
Where do you see it in the future?
Elephant Squad is going to be everywhere. We are going to be putting out mixtapes and compilations featuring hip-hop, rap, rock and metal artists. These discs will get out to the masses and head executives alike. We will also start sponsoring events such as concerts and fundraisers. Elephant Squad isn’t just about the clothing, it is about the movement. Through individualism people find themselves. Through our movement, they can find other likeminded people that could possible help them in future. Our movement now becomes a network, a brotherhood, where individualism is not lost.
How did the phrase “We are Vendetta” come about?
“We are Vendetta” is the motto of Elephant Squad and the philosophy that we live and work by. Elephant Squad’s main mission from day one was to make sure everyone felt welcomed. People have been kicked and pushed and excluded from the main stream. Meeting expectations to be functional in today’s society has become not only an unattainable task but the main stream media has made it seem that if you do not do it the way you are told, you will not be successful. “Be a certain weight. Drink a certain food. Follow only our philosophies.” We want to show people there are other ways to live and become successful. Elephant Squad wants not only for people to succeed but exceed expectations and show up everyone who doubted us in the first place.
What sets you apart from other clothing brands?
What sets Elephant Squad apart is the motive behind the brand. Elephant Squad wants to not only help people become more successful but show them the steps that can help them do so. With Elephant Squad products, people can walk around with their heads up high with the knowledge that they are not alone in the world. Such comfort can help drive people to attempt to do great things and remain focus on their dreams instead of growing old and looking back on a life that wasn’t completely fulfilled.
