Audrey Kitching’s interview with Hayley Williams

Audrey Kitching featured Hayley Williams of Paramore in her 20 question segment.  The questions range from Paramore’s 4th upcoming album to Hayley’s favorite fashion designers.  You can check out the entire interview HERE, but here is a little sneak peek:

You guys are working on your new album, I heard that it’s being produced by Meldal-Johnsen, who most recently worked on M83′s albums. How was it working with him on this album and how would you compare it to previous albums?

At this point, we have recorded one song with Justin. That time in the studio was easily the most relaxed, inspired, and liberating experiences we have had in any studio thus far. We are huge fans of his work not only as a producer but as a musician, writer and musical director. He wears all those hats well and with a lot of humility.

What is the main inspiration behind the new record?

I am laughing things off a lot more easily these days than I was at 19, when I wrote the last album. A lot of change… a lot of positivity. Even the songs with the more serious subject matter feel less toiled and troubled. Musically, I am most inspired by the personality captured in every instrument. That, to me, is actually what is making up this newer sound that is happening.

How would you describe your personal style, Where do you pull your inspiration from?

My style, to me, seems more like the anti-style. I never feel like I’m really wearing a popular trend or something that a lot of other girls would just kill to wear. As I get older, my interest in beautiful things is peaking but I still feel most comfortable in pants or more androgynous styles. I could’ve never lived in a day where it wasn’t seen as socially acceptable for women to wear pants. Rude Girl vibes are especially inspiring to me right now. Plus, being in California where the sun is always out and the palm trees look like Tim Burton characters… Everyone looks cool with a backdrop like that.

Favorite designers?

I’ve worn a lot of Miu Miu and always feel great in their clothing. Rag & Bone and J Brand seem to understand denim, or at least my idea of jeans, and I appreciate that. I also really love Helmut Lang. I don’t know a lot about their brand but it feels like they really honor a woman’s power in most of their designs. I was just looking at some of their blazer/pant looks for a/w 2012 and I know I would feel like a superwoman in some of those pieces.

Franz Ferdinand Fans Get Tear Gassed and Pepper Sprayed by Brazilian Police

Over the weekend fans who were trying to get in to a sold out Franz Ferdinand show in Brazil were pepper sprayed and tear gassed by the police. The reason for this was because the die hard fans were trying to scale the fence.

To learn more about the even check out the article here. Below is one of my favorite videos by them:

What do you think of the whole fiasco?

And By Love

And By Love is a four piece band from Fayetteville, North Carolina that has seen a surprising amount of success, considering the small town that they reside in.  The group has performing with nationally touring acts such as There For Tomorrow, Sing it Loud, Sent By Ravens and Rookie Of The Year.  They have released two EPs in the past, the Patience EP and The Surrender EP, with a third on the way to be released on June 12th.  Their guitarist Wes Lauterbach gave us on update on the band’s plans for the future as well as insight into their upcoming EP.

How did your band come together?

We all met through old bands, and really we just decided it was time for us to take this more seriously. It took us a little time to really come together but since this band has started, we’re inseparable.

You’re releasing your third EP this year, what are the details on the release and how does it differ from previous ones?

This CD is super different. The amount of time and work we put into this is obvious. This is also the first time we worked with a producer, Drew Fulk. Our writing has really matured a lot over this last year. I think it shows in this new EP.

What are some of your greatest influences musically? What effect do these have on your music?

We really listen to everything. We’ve all really been enjoying the Foo Fighters and the new Mayday Parade CDs. Listening to bands that have made it just inspire us to push harder. It’s really kept us in creative mode when it comes to writing.

Through playing with many seasoned bands such as There For Tomorrow, Sing it Loud, and Rookie Of The Year, what have you learned from that? How had that changed your perspective on your music?

It’s really helped us understand the industry from more then just how we see it. And when we went on tour with Rookie Of The Year last August it really opened our eyes to how tour works. We’ve learned experience in this industry is the best way to learn.

You recently had the chance to play at, RaleighPalooza, how was that experience?

We loved it. Being able to share the stage with and watch The Almost, Forever The Sickest Kids, even As Cities Burn was amazing. We grew up listening to some of those bands. So just sharing the stage with so many people we look up to was really inspiring.

What are some of the greatest successes that your band has seen? The greatest setbacks?

This new record feels like our biggest success. The time and effort we put into it, the finished product is something we are all really proud of. It feels like our greatest set back has been our inability to tour. But, we do plan on touring all year starting in June, so hopefully we can get out to see everyone!

What are your goals for the future? What are your largest musical aspirations?

We all love writing and performing and just being in a band together. So our goals for the future along with our aspirations are to get out there to as many people as we possibly can and to just do this for the rest of our lives. We just want our music to help as many people as it can. Just like music has helped us throughout our lives.
